SuperGrans coordinator Lana McMillan and cooking tutor Waltraud Hoffmann say there are little things younger generations can do to save money.

Through workshops, they’re teaching people of all ages how to do their own house repairs, how to cook nutritious meals, how to make food last longer and even how to treat themselves on a budget.

“People are living payslip to payslip. SuperGrans’ aim is to help people thrive, not just survive,” McMillan said.

Canine Callie to the rescue

Airmen from the US Kentucky Air National Guard’s Special Tactics Squadron rescued 19 stranded residents and two dogs after historic flooding in the US state. They were assisted by Callie, the only certified search-and-rescue canine in the US military.

The US National Guard said in a tweet: “what we bring to the table is the ability to get a dog, with its incredible capabilities, to normally inaccessible locations potentially faster.”

Although Callie is trained in searching for living or missing people – “she also did a great job of telling us specific locations to investigate more thoroughly to recover fatalities, to help bring closure to those individuals’ families,” Kentucky Air National Guard said in a statement.
