The world might be waiting with bated breath to see who gets the coveted role of James Bond after Daniel Craig stepped down from the role – except former 007 Pierce Brosnan.

Pierce, 69, who starred as the super spy in four James Bond films between 1995 and 2002, has revealed he ‘doesn’t care’ which actor is the next to be handed the keys to the Aston Martin now that the role is up for grabs.

He told GQ: ‘Who should do it? I don’t care. It’ll be interesting to see who they get, who the man shall be. Whoever he be, I wish him well.’

Pierce, who played Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Die, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, also praised his successor, Daniel Craig.

‘I saw the last one and I saw Skyfall. I love Skyfall. I’m not too sure about the last one [No Time To Die],’ he admitted.

Pierce added: ‘Daniel always gives of his heart. Very courageous, very strong.’

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson revealed that they are still narrowing down which actors could get the role next, including Idris Elba who Barbara ‘loved’.

She told Variety: ‘The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off. And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment.

‘So he’s probably thinking, “Do I really want that thing?” Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it],’ with Michael adding: ‘And he was in his early 30s at the time!’

Barbara had previously revealed that any decisions on a casting would not even begin until Daniel’s final movie had been released, following huge delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

There’s long been speculation over who could take on the coveted role next, with many calling for a female or Black actor to fill the role for the first time in a full movie.
