But owner Joel Glazer doesn’t want to sell the highly-marketable star.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the American is “against the prospect” of flogging the 37-year-old despite his desire to leave.

Ten Hag, however, is now open to the prospect of getting rid.

The Dutchman has publicly maintained that Ronaldo is not for sale.

But privately he has become open to the idea of moving on.

United developed a feel-good factor during their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, which Ronaldo did not attend.

It has quickly been sapped upon his return, however.

The former Real Madrid star is a sulky presence at Carrington, reportedly hardly talking to his team-mates.

He retains the admiration of some of the younger members of the squad, but SunSport revealed last week that many United players would like to see Ronaldo leave this month.

There is a growing anger around the squad at Ronaldo’s negative attitude.

The Portuguese wants to leave for sporting and personal reasons.

On the pitch, he would like to play in the Champions League again.

While off it, partner Georgina Rodriguez reportedly favours a return to Spain for their young family.

The BBC report that chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough are now “wrestling” with what to do ahead of the transfer deadline.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have both ended their respective interests in Ronaldo, although Atletico Madrid may still be keen.

Despite a fan backlash against the potential signing, Atleti are reportedly willing to offer Alvaro Morata or Antoine Griezmann in exchange for Ronaldo.
