Kiwis dominate day 1 of racing in Lyttelton Sail GP

After a delayed start for dolphin, racing in the Sail GP has finished with the Kiwis dominant after day 1.

In sunny weather though testing wind conditions, France drew first blood in the first race of the day. The kiwis after a slow start worked their way through the middle of the fleet showing good boat speed to pip Great Britain, for second place, with Australia 4th.

Race 2 was a different story with the Kiwis thrashing Australia by 22 seconds with Canada further back again in third.

In the day’s final race Canada prevailed, sailing brilliantly to score a 3 second win over a fast finishing home team.

Despite a penalty at the start the Kiwis had shown another impressive burst of speed to get back into it.

New Zealand end the the day on top with 28 points, with the fast improving Canadians on 24, and Great Britain on 23.

The regatta continues tomorrow, with similar weather forecast.
