Emmerdale star Rosie Bentham has weighed in on fan speculation surrounding newcomer Nicky, confirming that so far, no one has got it ‘bang on’.
Nicky, who joined the ITV soap last year as Home Farm’s resident nanny, has been keeping his cards pretty close to his chest, having no ulterior motives other than to do his job to the best if his ability.
On the surface, he appears to be nothing more than a kind, gentle soul with a big heart but fans reckon that Nicky is up to no good, with many having speculated that he’s got sinister motives and is using Gabby, played by Rosie, to get whatever it is that he wants.
Then of course there is the fact that he doesn’t have surname on the end credits, which in soapland, often equates to having a connection to character currently in the village, perhaps suggesting he’s in cahoots with someone else.
‘The speculation is really funny to look at,’ actress Rosie Bentham told Metro.co.uk, discussing the viewers’ opinions of Nicky. ‘I don’t think anyone’s got it bang on at the minute.
‘It’s so great. No one’s actually thinking that this guy is who he says he is. It’s a soap so who knows, but Gabby definitely sees him as this perfect boy who’s come in and could change her life for the better.’
Nicky, as viewers know, wasn’t all too keen on having a relationship with Gabby, despite harbouring strong feelings for her, as he believed it could put his job in jeopardy – especially if Kim Tate (Claire King) was to find out.
But with the attraction between them too strong to resist, the pair subsequently gave into temptation, embarking on a secret affair.
‘Gabby and Nicky are so in love with each other,’ said Rosie of the scenes we’re seeing on screen right now. ‘They’re so smitten at the minute. Gabby shocked the viewers with how quickly she flung herself on to Nicky as soon as he walked through the door, but that is very typical Gabby and it’s also very typical Bernice, who’s obviously Gabby’s mum.
‘It relates to that and it’s nice to see that their personalities are very similar in that sense, towards men, though it’s never really gone well for Bernice. Maybe Gabby might have a bit more luck!’
Gabby and Nicky’s romance is put in danger next week when Caleb Milligan (William Ash) walks in on them together!
‘[Caleb] walks in and catches them being overly friendly with each other, I think we might be kissing at that point or something like that in the kitchen and he walks in!’, said Rosie, discussing the upcoming scenes.
‘That’s where it’s left and it’s like this has completely blown all cover!’.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
