Chicago weather: Suburbs face repeated tornado warnings Saturday afternoon

Chicago suburbs including Maywood, Belvidere, Harvard, Elmhurst and Melrose Park faced tornado warnings on Saturday as strong storms ripped through the area.

There were no significant reports of damage from the radar-indicated tornadoes as of Saturday evening.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for several counties in the Chicago area including DeKalb, DuPage, Will, Kane, Kankakee and McHenry counties.

The National Weather Service issued the watch at 1:45 p.m. for DeKalb, DuPage, Will, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle and McHenry counties. The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Strong storms and severe weather will continue to be possible for the Chicagoland area throughout the day.

Severe weather threats include high winds, heavy downpours with brief flash flooding and a tornado.

As far as timing goes, FOX 32 Meteorologist Mark Strehl says the storms should hit along I-39 just after 2 p.m. — then will push into the Chicago area between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m.

A window of sunshine is possible midday, which has the potential to provide even more energy into the system.

In this case, clouds are good, and could hamper the development of the most severe storms.
