It was also believed the vehicle had a “punctured fuel tank” and hadn’t been used in a while.

The call was made to the fire brigade at 10:27am and crews had arrived and started on the blaze by 10:35am.

Burke said the firefighters had arrived “just in time” before the house caught fire as well.

“This is just an example of the public helping us, so we can help them,” Burke said.

Only superficial damages happened inside the house, but the outside wall was burnt and a garage window smashed.

Firefighter Mark Urwin said although the side of the house had burnt and a window smashed through, there was only superficial damage to belongings inside.

“The worst of it is gone.”

Firefighters continued work to contain the flames from the petrol leaking out of the vehicle.

Police were at the scene to direct traffic for a time but the road has since been cleared.
